Picard does not read audio CD

DiscError: couldn't open the CD audio device

Using "CD Lookup" always gives this error.
OS is Windows Vista, but "report a bug..." URL set "Windows+XP". (e.g. http://bugs.musicbrainz.org/newticket?component=Picard+Tagger&version=Picard+0.10&os=Windows+XP)
CDs play normally in Winamp or WMP.

Does it work for other CDs? Or any CD causes this?

Just to be sure: Have you selected the correct CD drive in the Picard settings?

Yes, I've got only one DVD drive. The machine is a Compaq Presario SR5204.
